Ingress Protection Testing
Dripping Water Ingress Protection Testing
Sensotech Instruments Inc. manufactures advanced Ingress Protection Testing Equipment designed for evaluating the waterproof performance of electrical and electronic products according to IEC 60529 standards. The system is specially developed for IPX1 and IPX2 dripping water tests, ensuring accurate verification of enclosure protection against vertically falling water drops and tilted dripping conditions. The equipment features a PLC-based touch screen control system for easy operation, programmable test timing, and precise water flow control. A motorized tilting platform is provided for IPX2 testing, while the precision drip box ensures uniform water distribution. Manufactured with durable stainless steel construction, the apparatus delivers reliable and repeatable testing performance. It is widely used in electronics, lighting, automotive, appliance testing laboratories, and quality assurance departments.
First Digit: Solid Foreign Objects
The first digit of the IP protection rating defines the level of protection provided by an enclosure against access to hazardous parts and the ingress of solid foreign objects such as dust, tools, wires, and fingers.
| Level | Object Size Protected Against | Effective Against | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| X | — | No Rating Available | X indicates that no protection rating data is available for this criterion. |
| 0 | — | No Protection | No protection against contact or ingress of solid objects. |
| 1 | > 50 mm | Large Body Surfaces | Protects against accidental contact with large body surfaces such as the back of the hand. |
| 2 | > 12.5 mm | Fingers or Similar Objects | Prevents access by fingers and similarly sized objects. |
| 3 | > 2.5 mm | Tools & Thick Wires | Protection against tools, thick wires, and similar objects. |
| 4 | > 1 mm | Wires & Small Objects | Protects against most wires, slender screws, and small insects. |
| 5 | Dust Protected | Limited Dust Ingress | Dust ingress is not completely prevented, but it will not interfere with the satisfactory operation of the equipment. |
| 6 | Dust Tight | Complete Dust Protection | Complete protection against dust ingress and contact with internal components. Vacuum testing may be applied for up to 8 hours. |
Second Digit: Liquid Ingress Protection
The second digit of the IP rating system defines the level of protection provided against harmful water ingress. These tests evaluate resistance to dripping water, splashing, water jets, immersion, and high-pressure hot water cleaning conditions.
Water ingress ratings above IPX6 are not cumulative. For example, an enclosure certified for IPX7 immersion testing is not automatically certified for IPX5 or IPX6 water jet protection unless both tests are separately performed and certified.
| Level | Protection Against | Effective Against | Test Details |
|---|---|---|---|
| X | Not Specified | — | No data available regarding water ingress protection. |
| 0 | No Protection | — | No protection against water ingress. |
